Product Review: Oakley Superdrive

August 2009

Oakley have put a very strong foot forward with their Oakley Superdrive golf shoes, released earlier this season. With the demise of the Footjoy Classics, the market for attractive leather shoes is really heating up.

What Oakley have brought with the Superdrive is a clean and classic design with some very nice touches of modern technology.

The Oakley’s are heavier than the super-light Nike Vapors that have been reviewed on the site, but they weigh considerably less than the adidas 360 Tour Sport. For a leather golf shoe, the weight is very reasonable and there is no reason the Superdrives would not comfortably support any walker for thirty-six a day.

The Ortholite performance footbed works seamlessly with the heal cup to provide excellent support and comfort right out of the box. Unlike many “traditional leather” golf shoes, the Oakleys are comfortable from round one with no blisters or break in necessary.

The hidden laces are a nice touch that gives the upper a clean look.

The Superdrive uses eight Fast Twist Trisport Tri-Grip cleats for traction and support throughout the swing. Oakley’s “Net Shape Stability” platform claims to provide maximum support and control, which it delivers on.

The Superdrive’s chassis is a wide and stable platform that elicits immediate confidence.

The black TPU bands, complimented by the classic looking “O”, are both functional and aesthetically pleasing as they give additional mid-foot support, especially through impact.

The perforated tongue is a nice touch that provides additional ventilation on warm days.

In addition to the obvious function and looks, the Superdrive comes with a two-year waterproof guarantee.

Overall, both of us are very pleased with our Oakley Superdrive golf shoes and we continue to wear them.

Mike has been a Footjoy Classics guy for many years but he has converted to the great looking and strong performing Superdrives.

The MSRP on the Oakley Superdrive is a very reasonable $130.

We firmly believe that these shoes are an excellent value and should be considered by walking golfers in the hunt for new wheels.
