Course Review: Teravista Golf Club

Green Fees: $52 to $74 for 18, $34 to $44 Twilight

Teravista is a Troon Golf course so expectations were high as Troon owns and operates courses in 26 countries around the world and in 31 US states, including the fabled Turnberry course in Scotland and Troon North in Scottsdale. Also, Austin is a golf mecca so an interesting, enjoyable course was anticipated.

The website www.teravistagolf.com provides useful information about the course, including some selected course reviews. Particularly impressive is the course flyover which appears to show a diverse course with lots of interesting holes. Strangely, many trees that appear in the flyover do not exist on the course.

The comments below must be prefaced with the fact that we played the course in late February on a rainy, windy day. At times, both elements were fairly brutal but they turned out to be just about the only reminders of golf at a course that bears the “Troon” name.

The Pro Shop welcome at Teravista was very pleasant and it was good to see an easily accessible driving range without any incremental charges to use it.

Sadly, Teravista is a housing development in its early stages with a lot of land designated for future homes. The property is generally flat with very few trees and, aside from an excellent set of greens, I found this to be a very mediocre golfing experience.

The course is not for walkers regardless of weather because the transfers between greens and tees can be very long.

With all of the great walking golf available in the Austin area, I will certainly be playing my next round elsewhere.
